What is here

Quizzes are filed by subject, then topic, then a narrower subtopic (History, then Ancient Civilizations, then Ancient Egypt, for example), so one quiz leads naturally to the next on the same thing. Every quiz says up front how hard it is, how many questions it has and roughly how long it takes.

Stories are longer reads on the subjects behind the quizzes. Where a story draws on outside sources, they are listed at the end, and most stories link to a quiz on the same subject: read first, then test yourself.

The brain games, Number Rush and Chimp Memory, test arithmetic speed and working memory rather than general knowledge.

How a quiz works

  • Questions are multiple choice. Some ask you to identify a picture, such as a flag or a landmark.
  • Each answer is checked the moment you choose it, and your first choice is the one that counts.
  • Every question is timed: 15 seconds on easy quizzes, 20 on medium and 30 on hard. If the time runs out, the question counts as wrong.
  • Where a question has an explanation, you see it straight after answering.
  • At the end you get your score and can go back through every question.

Keeping score

  • Quizzes and games earn XP, scaled by how well you do. Replaying a quiz cannot be used to farm XP: you only earn what you have not already earned on it.
  • XP adds up to levels. Playing on consecutive days builds a streak, and daily goals pay a little extra.
  • Achievements mark milestones such as perfect scores and long streaks.
  • The leaderboard ranks every player by XP. After a quiz you can rate it, which helps other players choose.

What it costs

Nothing. You can play any quiz or game without an account. A free account, made with an email address or with Google, keeps your scores, adds your XP to your total and puts you on the leaderboard. Brainizz is paid for by advertising.

Getting things right

Facts change, and mistakes get through. If an answer looks wrong to you, please contact us with the quiz title and the question, and we will check it.
